Golden Afternoon Mnemba Dhow Cruise & Snorkeling

Enjoy a slow morning, then head out to the turquoise waters around Mnemba Island in the afternoon, after the strongest midday sun and once the morning crowds have gone. On board a spacious traditional wooden dhow, snorkel colorful coral reefs full of tropical fish, and if luck is on your side, spot dolphins or stop at a white sandbank along the way. As the day winds down, cruise back in the warm, golden light of the late afternoon.

Your afternoon starts with a hotel pickup around 2:00 PM, depending on your hotel’s location (if you’ve booked the option with hotel transfer). After arriving at Muyuni Beach, meet your local crew and set off by traditional dhow at 3:00 PM. Depending on the number of guests, we use either our smaller dhow (up to 15 guests) or our larger one (up to 20 guests).

Mnemba is busiest in the morning, so by the afternoon the water is calmer and less crowded. Enjoy two guided snorkeling stops at coral reefs full of tropical fish and colorful corals. All snorkeling equipment is included, and life jackets are available for extra comfort and safety.

Keep an eye on the water, too. Dolphins live in these waters, and sometimes they appear in the afternoon as well. If they do, it’s a lovely bonus. As always, we follow our Animal & Nature First approach: we never chase or disturb the dolphins, and everything happens naturally, on their terms.

After snorkeling, unwind on board with fresh tropical fruit and refreshing drinks. If the tide allows, we may also stop at a sandbank to swim and walk on the soft white sand. As the afternoon cools down and the light turns golden, we cruise back slowly toward the shore, arriving around 6:00 PM. From there, a transfer takes you back to your hotel (if you’ve booked the option with hotel transfer).

A great choice if you prefer cooler temperatures, fewer people around, and a calm, easygoing afternoon on the ocean.
